OTRO ARBOLITO NAVIDEÑO/ MORE CHRISTMAS TREES.

Este adorno se hace en un momento y nos puede dar mucho juego según los colores usados y el montaje final que hagamos. ¡Vamos a ello!

A very quickly ornament and very useful depending on the colours and the final arrangement. Let´s go!

Materiales: arcilla, extrusora, disco cuadrado y abalorios.

We need: clay, extruder, square disc and beads.

Montamos la extrusora con los discos habituales para hacer una murrina retro.  Put the clay discs into the extruder to make a retro cane.

Nuestro arbolito tendrá dos cuadrados en la copa, enrollamos una serpentina alrededor para mantener las dos piezas juntas y cortamos el sobrante.   

Our tree has two squares on the top, roll a serpentine to keep together both pieces and cut off the leftover.

Iremos añadiendo un cuadrado más a cada pieza y tendremos mucho cuidado al enrollar las serpentinas, para que queden bien adheridas y no se desprendan al cocer.

Add one square more each piece and be careful when roll the serpentines to be properly attaqued and do not fall apart when bake.

Ya sólo nos queda montar el adorno añadiendo unos abalorios para separar las piezas de arcilla, una estrella y el tronco.

Once all the pieces are baked and cold, there are ready to ensamble, put beads between the retro pieces, add the star and the stick.

Y aquí tenemos otra variación jugando con serpentinas plegadas y murrina retro usada como entrecuentas para separar las ramas del arbolito.

Here there is a variation playing with folded serpentines and a retro cane used as beads to separate the branches of the tree.

TUTORIAL ARBOLITO NAVIDEÑO/ TUTO CHRISTMAS TREE.

Se trata de un árbol muy sencillo que nos servirá como base para incluir todas las técnicas que queramos aplicar.

A very simple tree, a template to apply all the tecniques we want.

Necesitaremos arcilla y laminadora, palo de madera y cortador en forma de estrella.

We need clay, pasta machine, wood stick and a star shape cutter.

Empezaremos por hacer una lámina al mínimo grosor que nos admita nuestra laminadora para evitar que la arcilla se rompa al plegarla: lo más fina posible. Y cortamos en forma de capa, esto es un ángulo superior a 90º y redondeado por la base. Como veis en la foto, tampoco hay que ser muy preciso. Y empezamos a doblar con cuidado siguiendo la secuencia de las fotos.

Make a sheet with the clay at minimum, 9 at my Atlas and cut a shape like the picture, a 90º triangle with round shape at its base and fold it as the following photos shows. It is not necessary to be very exact.

Primero por la mitad y volvemos sobre ese pliegue como vemos en la tercera foto, siguiendo hasta que terminemos con ese lado.

Damos la vuelta a la pieza y repetimos por el otro lado.

First of all fold half and turn over itself  like you can see at the third picture. Flip over and repeat with the other side.

Y ya lo tenemos. En este caso he decorado con una murrina retro hecha con la extrusora y con colores navideños.

Añadimos el tronco y la estrella y listo para decorar cualquier rincón o colgar del árbol. Aquí tenéis diferentes colores y decoraciones. Según hayamos dejado más o menos desiguales los bordes y mayores o menores hagamos los pliegues, tendremos también diferentes resultados. 

We have it. Ready to decorate, I´ve used a retro cane made with extruder on Christmas colours. Add the stick and the star. Try your imagination to find other shapes, decorations and finishing.

       

Otra variante es decorar la lámina inicial por un lado con serigrafía (silkscreen) en tono dorado y el otro aplicar polvos de mica en color verde brillante. Plegamos igual que en el caso anterior y  tenemos este segundo árbol.

Por último os enseño una tercera variación con tiras por un lado y polvos de mica dorados por el otro. 

Other options to make the initial sheet are paint it with silkscreen, apply mica powder or decorate with thin strips

Ahora os toca hacer a vosotros vuestro árbol personalizado.

Adorno navideño. Xmas ornament.

os traigo una nueva pieza hecha con las cuentas serpentina que hicimos aquí.

Good afternoon, 
here a new piece I´ve made with serpentine beads which we´ve made here.

En este caso, se trata de un nuevo adorno para el año, pero reciclable como colgantes, adornos para puertas o lo que se te ocurra. Lo que haremos primero es la trasera texturizada con una lámina negra y cortamos círculos a la medida final de la pieza.

Now it´s another Xmas ornament, but you can use it as focal bead, as pendant, door hanger or whatever you can imagine. 
First of all, we have to make the back with a black texture sheet and cut a circle at desired size.

 Las texturas son caseras y tengo negativo y positivo como podéis ver en las fotos. En este caso usaré el de la izquierda, con las estrellas hundidas.

Handmade textures for this project, positive an negative as you can observe. We´re going to use the left one, with deep stars.

Si usáramos el que tiene las estrellas en relieve, al pintar y lijar, tendríamos que la pintura se acumularía alrededor de las estrellas y el efecto contrario es mucho más interesante.

If we used the texture with the stars in relief, after painting and sanding, the colour will be around the stars and the opposite effect is much more interesting.

Después de recortar la medida, usamos una semiesfera y colocamos el disco lo más centrado posible con el dibujo sobre el metal.

Put the rounded sheet on the semiesfere so centered as we could with the relief on the metal.

 Añadimos un poquito de arcilla líquida y colocamos las cuentas según el diseño elegido. Podemos hacer pruebas antes para ver cómo nos gustaría colocar las piezas, buscando equilibro de formas, colores y tamaños.

Put an small amount of liquid clay to attach the beads as the preselected design. It´s a good idea to try first to figure how to put the pieces finding balance between sizes, colors and shapes.

Una vez que está cocidas, usaremos pintura acrílica para colorear la textura del interior. Cuando esté seca pasamos lija suavemente hasta que nos guste el efecto. 

Once our piece is cooked and cold, put a little amount of acrilic paint, let it dry and sand it just a little.

El de la derecha lo he montado como un colgante.

The right one is a pendant with an interesting solution.

Aquí traigo la segunda parte del tutorial que prometí. Cómo usar las piezas serpentina.

Now the second part of the promised tutorial. How to use the serpentine pieces.

Lo primero es decidir qué pieza vamos a hacer. Una pieza plana como el árbol no es lo mismo que la semiesfera. En ambos casos mi opción ha sido trabajar sobre una base para manipular lo menos posible las piezas serpentina y no matar los bordes rugosos que tanto nos ha costado conseguir.

First of all, we have to decide the piece we want to make. A flat tree is not the same that a semisphere. In both pieces I´ve been working on a base to avoid touching the crusty peaks.

Según cómo vayamos a usar nuestras piezas, las cortaremos por la mitad o no. Si vamos a poner una trasera, nos interesa cortarlas para que la superficie de contacto sea uniforme, quitamos peso a la pieza y aprovechamos mejor el trabajo hecho.

According to the way we are going to use our pieces we will cut them in half or not. If our piece need a back, we´re going to cut it because we need a flat surface, less weight and save the work done.

Tendremos que diseñar con antelación nuestra pieza, al menos la forma y tamaño que tendrá, ahí podremos practicar con la trasera sin deformar las serpentinas.
En el caso del árbol hice una plantilla y coloqué las cuentas serpentina de la forma que quería, elegiendo tamaños y combinación de colores.

We have to make a previous design to manage less as we could the unbaked pieces. I drew a shape and I put the beads on it, in order to choose the perfect combination.

A continuación trabajaremos sobre la baldosa que irá al horno. Hacemos una lámina a grosor medio y colocamos las cuentas encima, recortamos el perfil y horneamos según la marca usada. ¿Por qué no horneamos las cuentas antes? Porque son circulares y si ya están cocidas no nos permitirían pequeñas deformaciones para ajustar los pequeños huecos que quedan entre ellas.

Now, we have to work on the tile which we are going to put into the oven. Make a sheet medium size, put the beads, reshape with X-acto and bake as the brand needs.  Could we bake the beads before? Yes, we could, but it is better we did not because they are circles, and if they were baked, it would not allow us to push the beads to fix the small gaps between them.

En el caso del árbol tenemos dos puntos muy frágiles: la copa y el tronco. Necesitaremos reforzarlos con un alambre que colocaremos como se ve en la foto. Aprovechamos para hacer un lazo que nos servirá para colgarlo de nuestro árbol de Navidad. Para ello ponemos otra lámina de grosor medio donde incrustamos el alambre.

Our tree has two weak points: the top and the trunk. We are going to reinforce them with a wire as shown into the picture. Make a loop to hang on the Christmas tree.

Escondemos con la trasera texturizada y recortamos lo sobrante. Horneamos de nuevo.
Dar el acabado deseado, bien lija suave, barniz o nada.

Add another sheet medium size with the wire inside. Hide all with a back textured sheet and reshape with a X-acto and bake again.
Finish as you prefer, a very soft sanding, varnishing or nothing.
